Principal Electrical Engr

Description:

Exciting career opportunities await those who are selected to be part of a technically advanced team of engineering professionals. The responsibilities and duties encompass a full spectrum of technical and professional competencies. The program offers unique challenges to enhance your career and the opportunity to develop and deliver game changing, next-generation solutions for the future war fighter efforts.

The program is looking for engineers – systems, software, electrical, mechanical, and product support -- to provide development, test, and verification expertise on what will be a company flagship, airborne radar surveillance system. The system applies state-of-the-art antenna and processing technologies to solve some of the most challenging requirements in the defense industry.

As a defense contractor, there are specific programs requiring a certain level of security clearance and special access for assigned staff. Overall, this means that a careful examination of an applicant's background will be made before the assignment of such work including financial records, foreign national contacts, motor vehicle driving records, any criminal convictions, etc. In addition, determining whether or not a candidate may have been denied employment or special consideration on a particular defense contractor's special program are all important elements in the assessment process after an offer is made. Not being able to secure the special accesses needed on some programs may result in the termination of employment if other suitable work is not assigned.

Job Description:

This job includes two discrete assignments. The candidate will be responsible for (1) the design and development of general purpose RF module and (2) a low phase noise oscillator. The individual must have extensive technical expertise in design and production support of radar hardware and low phase noise oscillator technology. Basic radar knowledge is also important to enable support and integration of these CCAs in the next higher assembly. A make vs. buy decision may be made on these developments, so strong communications skills and experience dealing with suppliers in a development environment may be required.

Specific duties will include:

Performing design and supplier trade studies

Examining the effects of power consumption, weight, thermal load, performance, and cost

Identifying risks and opportunities

Generating schedules and monitoring and reporting development metrics

Writing specifications for the hardware items

Working closely with and occasionally traveling to several suppliers if buy vs. make

Generation and release of a documentation suite reflecting the design, and integration of the prime hardware into the next higher assembly.

The candidate must have technical leadership experience and be capable of leading a team of 2 or more Engineers and Support Specialists, and must be able to interface closely with the Lead RF Engineer and Systems Engineers for the radar.

The candidate will also need to support and interface with the engineers developing the Special Test Equipment for the hardware as well. This includes flowing down test requirements and test methods.

The position is in support of a highly visible program. The schedule and budget are aggressive.

In the case of using an external supplier, occasional travel will be required during design, production, and test of the hardware.

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum 8 years work related experience, including technical leadership experience

Design and analysis skills in radars and radar oscillators

Good industry background in up/down converters and general RF knowledge and experience

Knowledge of general oscillator design principles

Excellent written & verbal communications skills

Ability to interface with vendors

Good teaming skills

Ability to write vendor specifications, make design trades, and make program level design presentations

Experience in modeling and simulation of RF components

Experience in RF performance evaluations and sensitivity analysis

Existing SSBI security clearance

Required Education (including Major): Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
