Raytheon is seeking highly skilled and motivated a Sr. Linux Cluster HPC Storage Architect/Engineer with extensive cluster based computing environment experience, that are interested in joining an enthusiastic team to provide all encompassing HPC storage/archive support and engineering services to the Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center in Monterey, CA.
The Sr. Linux Cluster HPC Storage Architect/Engineer will be responsible for an analysis of the requirements for tape back-up and archive systems currently in use at Fleet Numerical, as well as the requirements levied on back-up capabilities (e.g., archiving requirements, use to restore critical systems, retention times, amounts of data stored and length of retention. The analysis shall recommend hardware, software, networks, CONOPS, and other components necessary to replace some or all of the current equipment. The emphasis of this position will be to create a high-level plan of the Fleet Numerical system architecture through a five year period based on an analysis of computing requirements specified by the Fleet Numerical NWP and National Polar-Orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) data roadmaps. In conjunction with the engineering and architecture work above, the duties will include investigation, documentation, and development of a Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) for Fleet Numerical and Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO), with a focus on the necessary items that must be run in the event of a failure, how the systems will cover for one another, and the steps required (i.e., financial, technical programmatic and managerial) to establish true COOP between the two organizations.
Required Skills:
Must have a BA/BS degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related discipline or possess equivalent experience in lieu of a degree
Must have a minimum of 10 years experience in HPC cluster-based computing environments
Must have experience maintaining and supporting large storage subsystems including disk based near-line storage and tape archival systems
Must have in depth knowledge of disk-based storage hardware including storage controllers, fiber channel networks and RAID disk configurations
Must have strong knowledge of Linux-based file systems including, but not limited to: ext2/3, NFS, GPFS, PNFS clustered or shared file systems
Must also have experience managing disk quotes for a large user constituency
Must have experience troubleshooting and diagnosing complex issues related to storage performance and availability
Must be able to perform file system tuning
Must have advanced ability to analyze, design and architect complex IT systems and on-line services
Must have the ability to work with and understand technical issues of scientists, management, support engineers, & development teams
Must have superior written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and team interaction skills
Must be organized with a strong ability to deliver tasks on time, manage multiple efforts and be able to work with minimal supervision
Qualified applicants may be subject to a security investigation and must meet minimum qualifications for access to classified information. U.S. Citizenship is required.
Desired Skills:
Prior experience in HPC/HEC environments supporting large computational systems for scientific applications in agencies such as DoN, DoD, NASA, or NOAA.
Previous experience in a project management, leadership and/or supervisory role with substantial technical responsibilities.
Demonstrated ability to proactively learn, adapt to and use new hardware/software technologies.
Experience developing and implementing automated/autonomic tools for service quality, productivity and efficiency gains.
Record of professional recognition through peer reviewed publications; and recognized as an established authority & contributor in the field of HPC/HEC system administration and engineering.
Applicants with existing DoD clearances are highly desired.
